Library Research Award for Undergraduates

Award Background

It is the mission of the University Libraries to enrich the quality of life and advance intellectual discovery by connecting people with knowledge. To this end, the Libraries seek to anticipate and meet the information needs of our communities in their search for knowledge at any time and any place.

The University Libraries is an active participant in the educational mission of the University of Washington. One of the biggest challenges in academic librarianship is the effective integration of information literacy instruction into the academy. The Libraries strive, through collaborations with educators and students, to ensure that University of Washington graduates are information literate, able to find, select, and assess information, and therefore prepared to succeed personally and professionally in a global, knowledge-driven society.

The University Libraries actively promote opportunities for undergraduates to participate in research initiatives that expand creativity and academic scholarship. To facilitate these opportunities the Libraries sponsor a competition providing awards in support of undergraduate research.

The University Libraries would like to thank the University of California, Berkeley Library for its assistance in the development of this important and worthwhile activity. http://www.lib.berkeley.edu/researchprize/
