Reserves
There are three types of reserves in the Fisheries-Oceanography Library:
Permanent reserves are kept behind the Circulation
desk. Library staff can help retrieve these items. Items on permanent reserve can be checked out or used in the library.
Open course reserves are located in the open
stacks area near the front door of the library. Items are arranged by course
number, i.e., Ocean 520 or Fish 210. Course reserves information is available on the UW Libraries Catalog. Course
reserve items may be used in the library without being checked out. To
take a course reserve item out of the library, bring it to the Circulation
desk for check-out.
For all print reserve materials the following information applies:
LOAN PERIODS
Loan periods are 2 hour, 4 hour, 24 hours, 3 day and 1 week. A few items
are library use only. No renewals of reserve materials are allowed. Reserve
materials must be returned to the Fisheries-Oceanography Library.
FINES
Fines are $2.50 for the first hour, then .50 per hour to $30.00 maximum.
After the maximum charge, a replacement charge of $85.00 for books or $4.00
for reprints is added.
INFORMATION FOR FACULTY
-
How to submit a course reserve list
Reserve letters are sent to faculty six weeks before the start of the
quarter. If a class reserve list has been previously submitted, a copy
of the list will be included along with a blank reserve form. The reserve
form (pdf) needs to be filled out along with the class information, author,
title, call number of each item and desired loan period. (Reprints need
author and title listed.) This reserve form needs to be returned
to the library as soon as possible.
Faculty may also submit a list electronically
from the Web.
Copyright forms are no longer necessary, but the library advises faculty
to read the following information page to understand the University of
Washington Libraries Copyright Policy for reserve materials. The policy
is located here.
Information and facts about course reserves, electronic reserves, and course
paks is located at this site.
The Fisheries-Oceanography Library follows the policy set down by the University
of Washington Libraries, so please be aware of the criteria surrounding
copyright issues.
-
Journal reprints are accepted for reserve. Faculty need to provide the
reprints as we do not make photocopies. Any reprints or personal book copies
will be returned to faculty at the end of the quarter.
-
Items from other library units may be requested and placed on reserve at
the Fisheries-Oceanography Library.
-
Items which the UW Libraries do not own may be requested for purchase to
be placed on reserve. Please request purchases early so that ordered items
may arrive on time.
-
Prompt submittal of reserve lists is advised to allow sufficient processing
time.
ELECTRONIC RESERVES
The Fisheries-Oceanography Library can now place items, such as journal
articles, book chapters, class notes, past exams, and homework solution
online for easy student access. Electronic reserve will:
-
Allow simultaneous access by multiple students to course resources.
-
Permit students to read and print course materials at any time of day or
night.
-
Allow access to materials from home, office, library, or computer lab with
an UWNetID.
-
Eliminate the need to photocopy articles.
-
Solves the problem of missing or damaged pages.
To submit items for electronic reserve, complete the steps under Information
for Faculty above.
