EndNote on Access +:
The Libraries supports EndNote 8 for Windows' importing on Access+ computers. There is no support for earlier
versions of EndNote, or for off-campus use of all versions of EndNote, nor for versions of EndNote for Macintosh.
Support for the program itself, and the "Cite while you write" feature in Word, may be found by requesting technical help from the Access+ computer desktop.
A web version of EndNote was released in the autumn of 2006, allowing access to Endnote from any computer. See EndNoteWeb for more information, and the article Introducing EndNoteWeb. To log in and start using this form of EndNote, go to EndNote Web Express.
The import file was not saved in a tagged format, so EndNote cannot recognize
where the reference begins and ends. For an example of a tagged record, click here. Importable files need to saved in a .txt file format,
not a .cgi file format. Resave the file as a .txt file. You may be using a generic import filter rather than a filter built specifically for the catalog's records. EndNote doesn't
make import filters for library catalogs. For now, we can only
advise students to check imported references from the catalog and edit as necessary. EndNote provides a glossary on page 567 in the EndNote 8 Manual (613 PDF pages, slow to load)
The EndNote search interface is not as good as the database vendors search interfaces. Since many of our databases now import directly into EndNote, the UW Libraries has
decided not to install the connection files on the Access+ machines. The off-campus access proxy server doesn't allow searching with EndNote, since there is no way for
the connection file to authenticate your UWNetID.
EndNote's Technical support staff is very friendly and willing to help with questions about any version of EndNote.
They can be reached by email at: http://www.endnote.com/support/ensupport.asp,
or by phone at: (408) 987-5609, 8 AM to 5 PM Pacific, Monday through Friday. Fill out this Questionpoint form and EndNote Support Staff will contact you promptly.
EndNote is a program to help students create bibliographies from imported citations from databases. It formats references and creates bibliographies automatically in Microsoft Word. EndNote is installed on all Access+ workstations in the Foster Business Library and is also available in the Odegaard Undergraduate Library, the Suzzallo/Allen Library, and the Engineering Library. To find EndNote, go to the Start button at the lower left of the Access + homepage, then to Programs, for EndNote.
